
Introducing Music Therapy as a Holistic Cancer Care Approach, Honoring Survivors, and Spreading Awareness
Kolkata, February 4, 2025: Desun Hospital observed World Cancer Day 2025 with a series of impactful events centered around ‘United by Unique’, the global theme for this year’s World Cancer Day, emphasizing the distinct yet shared journeys of cancer survivors and fighters. The event featured a balloon release ceremony by the Oncology team, a flash mob in the OPD by employees, and a health awareness talk by Dr. Debanti Banerjee, Medical Oncologist. Cancer survivors and patients undergoing treatment shared their inspiring journeys, highlighting the power of resilience.

A key highlight of the event was the introduction of music therapy as a part of Desun’s holistic cancer care initiative. Bhorer Pakhi, a collective of artists led by noted voice artist Swapna Dey, captivated the audience with a soulful rendition of Rabindranath Tagore’s poetry, blending recitation and music to uplift the spirits of cancer patients and their families. This initiative marks the beginning of a collaboration between Bhorer Pakhi and Desun Hospital, with plans to conduct monthly music therapy workshops for cancer patients.
Swapna Dey, who spearheads the music therapy workshops, shared her thoughts: “Poetry and music heals. They speak of life, courage, and resilience. Through our recitations and melodies, we are aiming to bring comfort and strength to those battling cancer. Desun Hospital’s support in making this initiative a reality is truly commendable.”

The program concluded with a felicitation ceremony honoring cancer survivors and victors, reinforcing the hospital’s commitment to comprehensive cancer care that addresses both physical and emotional healing.
