Maitree, is a West Bengal based non-funded network of various organisations and individuals working on women’s rights issues. Maitree has been participating in the 16 Days Awareness Drive to Stop Violence against Women and Girls, which is an annual international awareness programme that initiates on 25th November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and runs until 10th December, Human Rights Day.
In support of this civil society initiative, Maitree, being a conglomeration of NGOs and CBOs and like – minded individuals participate in this 16 Days of Awareness Drive. This year, Maitree is focussing towards raising consciousness around “Demanding Women’s Safety Everywhere”, through a public rally passing through the heart of the city of Kolkata.
A massive rally was organized today from Gariahat Crossing to Rashbehari Crossing, with over 460 participants from diverse backgrounds, including students, representatives from NGOs and CBOs, corporate professionals, and like-minded individuals. The rally aimed to raise awareness about women’s rights and promote solidarity among the larger society.
The event, which began at 4 pm, witnessed enthusiastic participation from people of all ages and walks of life. The rallyists walked together, carrying banners and placards, to emphasize the importance of equality and justice for women.
The massive turnout for the rally underscores the growing concern and commitment among citizens to address issues related to women’s rights.
