Howrah, 27 February 2026: Westbank School of Nursing (established in 2012) and Westbank College of Nursing (established in 2020) have been officially merged and renamed as College & School of Nursing – Narayana Hospital (Unit of Asia Heart Foundation).
The unified institution is affiliated with the West Bengal Nursing Council, the Indian Nursing Council, and the West Bengal University of Health Sciences.
The College currently offers GNM, B.Sc. Nursing, Post Basic Diplomas in Oncology, Cardiothoracic, Paediatric and Neurology Nursing, along with M.Sc. programmes in Medical Surgical Nursing (Oncology and Critical Care Speciality) and Paediatric Nursing.
The institution is also in the process of introducing two advanced practice programmes — Nurse Practitioner in Critical Care and Nurse Practitioner in Anaesthesia — aimed at strengthening specialised nursing capacity in high-acuity and perioperative care.
The merger brings all nursing education initiatives under a unified academic and administrative structure, enabling streamlined curriculum delivery, enhanced clinical exposure within the hospital ecosystem, and greater focus on specialised skill development aligned with emerging healthcare needs.
Shampa Gupta, Principal, College & School of Nursing – Narayana Hospital (Unit of Asia Heart Foundation), said, “This merger strengthens our academic foundation and clinical training framework. With the introduction of advanced practice programmes, we aim to prepare highly skilled, compassionate nursing professionals equipped to meet the evolving demands of modern healthcare.”
With this consolidation and academic expansion, the institution seeks to further strengthen nursing education standards in Eastern India and contribute meaningfully to building a future-ready healthcare workforce for the region.
