Spread the love

The man behind this unique initiative is our very own Kolkata’s one man mango wonder Jasmit Singh Arora.
To be more specific mango gutli is the seed of the mango fruit which according to Jasmit requires to be washed and sun dried for 2 to 3 days to become eligible for handing it over to him. The most fruitful aspect of this rare project is that any mango seed from any part of India need not be discarded and thrown into the garbage can but, can also be recycled through this new venture and be transformed into a splendid mango tree. Jasmit Singh Arora targets to donate one lakh mango trees to the farmers all over West Bengal but, his objective is to reach the one crore target in coming years.

The entire process involves germination, grafting with the local mango breed like Himsagar, Golapkhas and donating these plants to the farmers. As the germination rate of mango seeds are very less and to this end, he requires 10 lakh mango seeds.
Mango trees promotes sustainable bio-diversity, by giving shelter to many kind of birds like the cuckoo and miscellaneous insects.
These birds promote cross pollination among farmlands.
With this donation one is creating a legacy of planting a tree bearing fruit for the new generation. The mango trees provide ample amount of oxygen to clear pollution and provide an eco-friendly envi-ronment. The king of fruits are endowed with great medicinal properties. Since past many years, huge number of mango
trees had been cut thus creating massive destruction of bio-diversity all across India.
Jasmit Singh Arora, under the auspicious of Gram Samridhhi Foundation is working with the farmers of West Bengal in such districts as Bankura, Purulia, Birbhum and Sundarbans for many years. Farmers are provided organic farm train-ing. They are made to realise the health hazards faced by consumers, farmers themselves and the environment including the soil in general owing to excessive use of health harmingfertilisers. To eradicate poverty and create more financial earnings, farmers are enlightened about the benefits of fruit tree cultivation vis-a-vis paddy farming.
Jasmit is overwhelmed by the positive response he received for his mango gutli collection drive from so many schools and other environment friendly institutions as well as individual members from the Kolkata public, West Bengal and all across India. He even had received calls from Italy and other European countries.
