Kolkata Nivedita Shakti Celebrates 15th Annual Day with Focus on “One Health” and Women’s Empowerment…
Kolkata, June 11, 2026: Kolkata Nivedita Shakti (KNS), a national movement dedicated to women’s empowerment through science, technology, and social development, celebrated its 15th Annual Day at the Institute of Engineering & Management (IEM), Kolkata.

The day-long event brought together eminent scientists, academicians, healthcare professionals, social workers, researchers, and students on a common platform to promote scientific awareness, public health, and social responsibility.The programme commenced with an invocation, floral tributes to Sister Nivedita, and a welcome address by Prof. Dr. Sampa Das, President of Kolkata Nivedita Shakti and former Senior Scientist of Bose Institute. Dr. Reeta Bhattacharya, National Vice-President of KNS, presented the organization’s vision, achievements, and ongoing initiatives in the fields of women’s empowerment, education, and community development.The inaugural session was graced by Prof. Parul Chakraborty, renowned senior scientist, former faculty member of Bose Institute, and Trustee-Coordinator of the J. C. Bose Science Heritage Museum, as Chief Guest. The session was chaired by Dr. Archana Majumdar, former Member of the National Commission for Women.A major attraction of the celebration was the interdisciplinary Technical Session on “One Health”, which highlighted the vital interconnection between human, animal, and environmental health. Experts from diverse fields including Pulmonology, Veterinary Microbiology, Cancer Research, Homoeopathy, Ayurveda, and Fisheries Science shared their insights on emerging health challenges and the need for integrated solutions.The distinguished speakers included Dr. Rumdeep Kaur Grewal, Dr. Angira Dasgupta, Dr. Indranil Samanta, Dr. Sutapa Mukherjee, Dr. Sukanya Mitra, Dr. Madhumita Majumdar, Dr. Archana Sinha, and Dr. Rakhi Ray.

Their presentations emphasized collaborative approaches to healthcare, disease prevention, environmental sustainability, and public well-being.To encourage scientific temper among young researchers, a Poster Presentation Session was organized, showcasing innovative research and providing opportunities for academic interaction and knowledge exchange.The Valedictory Address was delivered by Justice Samapti Chatterjee, former Judge of the Calcutta High Court, who underscored the importance of ethical leadership, social commitment, and the active participation of women in nation-building.The celebration concluded with a vibrant cultural programme. Mrs. Krishna Mahajan captivated the audience with recitations from Rabindranath Tagore’s Kshanika, followed by soulful Rabindra Sangeet performances by Dr. Swagata Ghosh and Mrs. Manjulika Guha Thakurta. The event came to a close with the rendition of “Vande Mataram” and the National Anthem.The 15th Annual Day of Kolkata Nivedita Shakti successfully blended science, health, culture, and social service, reaffirming the organization’s commitment to empowering women, fostering scientific awareness, and building a healthier, more inclusive.
